Term Definition Range of Units
Grade Equivalent A score that shows in which grade a student might be enrolled to make the same scaled score K - 12 and PHS (Post High School)
Normal Curve Equivalent (NCE) A standard score with a known mean and standard deviation that causes it to be distributed evenly over the normal curve 1-99
Percentile or National Percentile Rank (NPR) The relative standing of a student in comparison to other students in the same grade in the norm group who took the test at a comparable time in the school year 1-99
Raw Score The number of questions answered correctly Determined by the number of items on the test
Scaled Score Representation of a raw score in approximately equal units on a continuous scale Determined by the test developer
Stanine Percentile ranks divided in 9 groups with 1-3 being low scoring, 4-6 average, and 7-9 above average 1-9
